My Name is Alan Finn I am an Artist and Arts Teacher

From the beggining |
Where we are now |
I have always created art from an early age and took more interest in the boxes my toys came in rather than the actual toys, making my own landscapes, suites of Armour, castles and tanks. I used to like making comic books and trying to sell them to the neighbors in the street or making banners for my skateboard gang. In my teenage years I used to have an aviary breeding lots of very different birds like finches, quail, canaries and parakeets. I would sit and draw and paint birds obsessively making diaries of breeding pairs.
I went on to leave school at 16 and continued practicing art for pleasure then moved to Australia where I found a new love and fascination for Aboriginal Art and visited many spiritual historical Aboriginal Art landmarks and cave paintings. After returning to England I went on to study at Sunderland University FINE ART and DESIGN in corporation Aboriginal Art into Pop Cultural Icons. After graduating I perused a career of practicing art being resident artist in many Cafes and Alternative clothing shops, making and selling my own style of art and commissions. After volunteering at a Special Educational Needs school I soon found myself taking on a teaching and mentoring role and a new artistic release of passing on my skills to others. I went on to complete a teaching degree in Art as a specialsied subject and I have found my vocation in life sharing my skills and showing an appreciation of the arts with those who may not necessarily have the opportunity to. |
Funding and access to art in schools is being dangerously threatened.
Recent reforms and legislation by the coalition government undermine the continued role of art within education. The omission of art from the English Baccalaureate has already caused a 40% decline in young people taking visual arts subjects in school. This erosion of art education means the development of creativity in all young people is at risk. Without nurturing, innate creativity may well die. A world without artists, creative thinkers and innovators is a world without colour. I aim to keep the creative fire burning in all and keep on keeping on !! |
I am inspired by all forms of art from music to self expression of art for art sake.
